How Altrusa Helps

Feeding the Homeless during a Pandemic

2021 Annual Sandwich Man Service Project
Watch the Sandwich Man in action

Altrusa International Club of St Paul has supported the work of Alan Law, The Sandwich Man, for six years. We decided we would not let a pandemic stop us when the need was so great. We simply needed a way to make sandwiches for the homeless while following CDC guidelines. We decided to make sandwiches in our individual homes. Our club president ran a "Sandwich Wagon" to pick up the sandwiches and deliver them to The Sandwich Man. It turned out that the challenge delivered the greatest results to date, 1,600 sandwiches for the homeless during a pandemic year.

There is a FREE lunch at International Institute of Minnesota

Thursday, October 24, 2019 (Unable to host in 20201 due to COVID)

Altrusa of St Paul has partnered with the International Institute of Minnesota for nearly 20 years. The Institute provides support and training for immigrants to learn English and secure jobs so they become self-supporting. Each year, Altrusa hosts a luncheon to honor the students currently in the program. The 2019 luncheon was also supported by an Action Team grant from Thrivent Financial. Each student received a t-shirt with the Thrivent theme - Live Generously!
